Gel medium is a white, paste-like gel that will thicken your paint so that it retains brushstrokes ideal for impasto techniques. It also enhances the adhesive properties of the paint, which makes it suitable for collage work.
Gel mediums are available in different types, like gloss & matte, and also different textures. This is a Gloss medium, which enhances the glazing effect of the paint. In fact, the Gloss medium can be used as a glazing overlay on the painting either wholly or in specific areas such as adornments, sun or shimmer on the water.
No Yellowing: A question that is often asked by artists. Yellowing does not take place when Gloss medium is used. The gloss medium is a binder without the colour pigment, it only adds to the volume of the paint, without diluting the pigment’s density.
FAQs:
Can it be used to create textures? Yes and No. Yes you can use it to thicken the base paint. But on its own, it cannot be used as in impasto or knife based work. The dried effect will appear gelly like.
Does it delay drying time? Marginally yes. For actual delayed drying time, try Retarding agents such as Camel Retarder or Liquitex Slow Drying agents.
